About Virtus Law PLLC
Our team consists of five attorneys, all of whom are licensed in Minnesota. We also have one attorney licensed in Illinois. Our team is led by two Principals. One of the Principals will coordinate the work of the team and ensure quality and timeliness of the team’s work. Four of the team members physically work out of our Northwest Office and one of the members works in the Southeast Office.
All our attorneys commit to high standards of responsiveness, including committing to returning calls within a maximum of 24 hours, and on the same day whenever possible. Each of our team members has significant business experiences within the law and/or in a prior career.
Thomas M. Fafinskiis co-founder of Virtus Law, PLLC. Tom graduated 13thin his class at William Mitchell College of Law, cum laude, and was also a cum laude graduate of the College of St. Thomas, with a BA in Finance. Tom is an active member of the MNSCU faculty and is also active with the Minnesota Real Estate Investor’s Association and Minnesota Real Estate Exchangers, Minnesota Multi-Housing Association. Fafinski is frequently published in Dakota County Tribune, StarTribune and various newsletters. Fafinski is a member of the national asset protection, tax and estate planning organization, Wealth Counsel. Tom is also involved as a business coach and facilitator for 2 CEO peer groups. He is admitted in State and Federal Court for Minnesota. Tom enjoys spending time with his family, reading, golfing, dogs, horses and sports. Fafinski is a die-hard Bruce Springsteen fan.
Nathan Nelsonis President and co-founder Virtus Law, PLLC. Nate is the litigation practice leader. He was also general counsel to a real estate investment company. Nathan graduated from Hamline University and the Hamline School of Law and is actively involved with his alma mater. He has a paralegal certificate and was a legal clerk for the Honorable Gordon Schumacher. Prior to law, Nelson was a supervisor at a manufacturing facility. Nathan is also involved with MNREIA and is a frequent speaker relating to litigation issues for real estate investors and privately held businesses. Nelson balances his love for sports and music with time spent with his four dogs. He is also a very big Metallica fan! While litigation is a process of last resort, it is an available business tool nonetheless; Nathan Nelson uses this tool to create business opportunities in commercial and real estate arenas.
Kyle Gaffaney is an associate attorney practicing in the business and tax [income and estate] areas. He is licensed in Minnesota and Illinois. Kyle attended Loyola University of Chicago School of Law where he received the William J. Kilbridge award for outstanding academic performance in clinical studies and Federal Income Taxation. He was also the News Editor of the Consumer Law Review and received a certificate in Taxation from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. Kyle is a Minnesota native, growing up in the rural Minnesota town of Glenwood. He has degrees in Accounting and Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management. After graduating from the U of MN, Kyle worked as an Accountant at local investment management firm for five years. Mr. Gaffaney resides in Minneapolis with his wife.

Dawn Kubat is an associate attorney working in business transactions and litigation. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Corrections at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She worked as a juvenile work crew supervisor for Dakota County for a brief time before deciding to pursue law school. Dawn received her Juris Doctorate from Hamline University School of Law in 2008. Both during and after law school she worked in contract management for a large national defense firm. Dawn enjoys spending time with her husband and their two bulldogs. Her hobbies include outdoor activities, watching movies, shopping and traveling.
