Governor Walz Issues Executive Order 21-01 Allowing Indoor Dining and Resuming Other Activities

Governor Tim Walz’s Executive Order 21-01 issued January 6, 2021, modifies the current COVID-19 restrictions yet again.  Specifically, Governor Walz’s order does the following (most changes effective Monday January 11, 2021 through at least Wednesday February 10, 2021, with some exceptions):

  1. Restaurants:
    • Outdoor and indoor dining allowed with the following restrictions:
      1. Occupancy of any indoor space must not exceed 50% normal occupant capacity with a maximum of 150 people, provided that physical distancing is at least 6 feet apart.
      2. Occupancy of any outdoor space must not exceed 150 total people and must maintain 6 feet of physical distance between parties at different tables.
    • No more than 6 customers may sit at the same table
    • All establishments must close and remain closed each day for on-premises consumption between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am.
  2. Social Gatherings:
    • Indoor social gatherings are allowed but are limited to two households and a maximum of 10 people. Members of different households must maintain 6 feet of physical distance from each other.
    • Outdoor social gatherings are allowed but are limited to three households and a maximum of 15 people. Members of different households must maintain 6 feet of physical distance from each other.
  3. Gyms and Fitness Centers:
    • Indoor gymnasiums, fitness/recreation centers, indoor sports facilities will remain open at 25% capacity, with a 150-person limit. Public pools and pools in gymnasiums and indoor fitness centers may operate at a 25% capacity.
  4. Theaters and Entertainment Venues:
    • Venues providing indoor events and entertainment such as cinemas, concert halls, museums, performance venues, and bowling alleys may open provided:
      1. All venues must ensure physical distancing of 6 feet between participants from different households.
      2. Venues that serve food or beverages for on-premises consumption must not offer food or beverages between the hours of 10:00 pm and 4:00 am.
  1. Wedding, Funerals, and Services:
    • Places of worship, funeral homes, and other venues that offer gathering space for worship, planned services, and wedding ceremonies may host indoor services at 50% normal occupant capacity and 6 feet of physical distance between households.
